Rabbit Vets
Where to find an
experienced
rabbit vet in the UK
The best way to find a good UK rabbit vet is through word of mouth. The Rabbit Welfare Association have a Members Only list of rabbit friendly vets together with useful tips on how to select a good rabbit vet. If searching on the Internet it is worth remembering that vets themselves refer to rabbits, guinea pigs and other small furries as 'exotics'. Many veterinary surgeries that specialise in rabbits may also work with other 'exotics' such as reptiles, amphibians, birds and fish.
Rabbit rescues are a good source of information about where to find a good rabbit vet as they, more than most, get a lot of sick animals through their hands. I recommend you find yourself an experienced rabbit vet long before anything is wrong. Your rabbit will need to be vaccinated regularly and, if it is a baby, spayed or neutered, so that's also a good opportunity to get to know your rabbit's vet.
Sometimes you'll have to ask for an individual vet within a practice as most practices have vets specialising in particular areas as well as general surgery and medicine. Just because you have a sick rabbit, doesn't mean you'll be booked in with the 'rabbit vet' automatically.
Rabbits are a prey species and able to hide signs of illness until they are very ill indeed. A rabbit that looks pretty sick normally IS pretty sick so you should get the rabbit to the vet as soon as possible. If you are unsure whether the rabbit is ill or not, check out our rabbit health pages.

If you are a vet, VN or practice manager with a special interest in rabbits or your veterinary practice is experienced in rabbit veterinary medicine, please consider signing up for a free web page in our free searchable Directory which can link to your site. We are always being asked if we know of a good rabbit vet in a particular area and one of the main reasons for setting up the Directory was to provide the most comprehensive information possible for the owners of rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas and rodents. If you don't have a web site, or simply want one on this site in addition to your existing site, then tick the box on the Membership Application Form when you sign up for your free Directory page.
This web site is part of Galen's Garden's network of sites specialising in information of interest to keepers of rabbits, guinea pigs and chinchillas. To make this site as interesting as possible, we offer free web sites on this domain. If you are a veterinary surgeon or practice with a special interest or expertise in rabbits, you can have your own free mini web site on this site, www.rabbit-vet.co.uk, which you can edit yourself at any time. The advantage of having a site on www.rabbit-vet.co.uk is that search engines look for the words people search for in the web site domain name. This index page has also been optimised for search engines looking for rabbit vets.
If you are looking for a rabbit vet, then please search our Directory.
